Hmm. My first post disappeared into the ether. Anyway, I've been flat out for the past few weeks with long days of babysitting. Now I'm trying to get back into the routine of writing every day.

As for a snippet , there's this bit:

“Look,” John said, “I really didn’t mean to cause any problems-“

“That?” Rodney waved his hand in the air as if brushing the embarrassment away. “We argue like that all the time. It’s nothing.”

“You do? I thought you two were happy…” John’s voice trailed off.

“We’re married,” Rodney replied with only a shadow of bitterness in his tone, “I don’t think you’re supposed to be happy. Content with one’s lot, my mom used to say, was all you’re supposed to expect from marriage.”

“Can’t argue with you there,” John said, sitting down at the table. “I wasn’t all that good at being married myself.”

“Except to me,” Rodney said, a small crooked smile on his face. “Zelenka always said we were like an old married couple, remember? I sometimes used to think he suspected— So, still drinking your coffee the same way?”

I'm about 5k in... here's a snippet!

The Clones were able to tell what time it was using their helmet-mounted heads' up displays. Anakin had only the Force to tell him they'd been walking for almost ten hours. Though the path was easy, Anakin still found himself beginning to drag with fatigue, the darkness telling his internal clock that it was time to sleep. He reached out with the Force, trying to determine if they were drawing closer to their destination, but 'droids did not have Force signatures to latch onto, and the silence was absolute.

Suddenly, the path ended and in its place a wall, with a slot at shoulder-height, just big enough for Anakin to squeeze through on his stomach. He considered; they could stop here for the night (if it even was truly night) and tackle the slot upon waking, or they could forge ahead. He shoved his arm through the slot, using his lightsaber to illuminate what was beyond. He couldn't tell, but he could see that the slot got bigger somewhere within the glow of his 'saber.

There was no way the 'droid army could have gotten through, he realized. His instincts had failed him; they'd been going the wrong way. Now he had a decision to make: go back the way they'd come, and add an additional ten hours to their timeline, or forge ahead and hope that there was more than one path to the base. The Force whispered in the back of his mind: Go forward, it said.

"I'm going to see what's past this," he informed Rex. "Once I figure it out, I'll give the signal." He forced himself to sound confident, though he knew the Clone Captain knew they'd made a mistake. The thought niggled at him; he wasn't exactly known for making such major tactical errors. He was glad for the darkness so his flushed embarrassment wasn't completely obvious.

I'm actually coming along with this pretty well, so far! Snippet? Sure, have this...

He placed one of the mugs in front of Steve before sitting down, leaving a foot of space between them because he remembered the way Steve had flinched away from him in the car. Steve didn't look up, didn’t give any sign that he realised he wasn't alone in the room any longer; eventually his uninjured hand reached out for the mug, but it was shaking so badly that most of the coffee spilled to form dark patches on his faded jeans – and although it had to be hurting him, he didn’t react. The mug finally reached his mouth, and his teeth chattered against it before he drained what was left in it in a single gulp; then he stared down at his knees again, looking as though he’d rather be anywhere else but here, and Chris had no idea what to do.

“Steve,” he said hesitantly, when far too long a period of silence had elapsed, “do I need to get you to -”

“No,” Steve interrupted, and there wasn't a shred of emotion in his voice. “No more hospital, no more doctor, no nothing,” and he rose to his feet slowly and carefully, the way an old man might move. “I need to go to bed.”

erm, 6k in?

snippet:

Being back in Hawaii, standing at his dad's grave, it seemed almost surreal. Maybe he shouldn't have come—he had nothing to offer. He was a civilian now, didn't have a job, or a way to track down Victor, or the means to prove his father's death was anything but a car accident—

"Steve? Steve McGarrett?"

He raised his eyes, recognized the lanky Asian as Chin Ho Kelly. His father had been Chin's training officer; Chin had been a regular at his Dad's weekly poker games.

Chin took in the crutches, gave Steve 'the look', but then recovered quickly, and smiled. "Hey, brah. I didn't know you were home. You just visiting, or staying for a while?"

"I'm home—for now." It was a relief to turn away from the grave. "How's HPD?"

Chin shook his head, "I'm not a cop anymore. Me and HPD had a disagreement about my job duties."

Steve caught the tension behind the words; there was a story there, he was sure. "So what're you doing now?"

Chin's smile widened, "Taking you to lunch?"

Sneak peak *that totally doesn't give away the story har-har!*

“Are you ready?” Sam says as he slips the duffel bag over his shoulder and looks at Dean.

Or it might be that he's still worried about the Lucifer issue. Dean knows Sam is dealing with it better that he could have ever expected him to. It doesn't stops him from worrying that all that calm behavior will crumble down and then his brother will be lost in Hell memories and Dean won't be able to bring him back this time. It doesn't make it any easier to see Sam touching his left hand where the scar still is when he's obviously losing the grabs of reality.

“Yeah, let's get this sucker out.” Dean easily replies, pushing down any thoughts that doesn't comply on how to get rid of poltergeist.

I am around 15,000 words in but I have no clue how long my finished fic will be. As for a snippet here you go:

Excerpt from the Journal of Doctor Daniel Jackson, Presumed Dead in 2011
Can we ever really be surprised by what the Ancients have done and refuse to do? We are on the brink of war with an enemy that eats us. There is no worse thing for humans. We are the top of the food chain on our planet. Even as we prepare for war we are thinking ahead to what is coming after the war. What do we do? There are those who want to bury our heads in the sand and get rid of the Stargates and never travel the universe like that again. They are winning. They want to give up on life because it is hard. That is how the Wraith won against the Ancients all those years ago. The Ancients gave up. Just like humanity.
